As a Gahanna Lincoln high school
student, community service and giving back has always been enforced as an
important and mandatory thing to do. Therefore it has made me a responsible
community member. The first way I can say I have exhibited my role as community
member is by becoming this is be a youth leader at my church. As a youth leader
I do a lot of important things that pertain to giving back and helping the
community. We raise money for homeless shelters, and also help pay for new
books and computers at schools who don’t have enough money to afford new ones.
We have held youth daycares for single mothers at our and their friends and
family, and we had car washes to raise money so that we could have food drive
for the homeless. I also volunteer at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, helping
with cleaning animal cages, walking dogs, and doing paper work for adoption the
of the dog’s. Doing this work for the dogs makes me feel good inside because
they can’t help themselves, I enjoy making their living conditions better and
helping the dogs find good and permanent homes gives me a warm feeling inside.
It makes me feel good that I am giving back to my community and making a
difference.
Being a member of the Feddersion Rec Center
Competition Cheerleading team has made me a very strong team based player. In cheerleading,
we have to work as a team to get things done. Being a cheerleader means
stepping up and being the leader when others won’t in order to make things
better for the team. Pulling off perfect routines requires us to be in a good
mood and to work together as a team. Being a cheerleader and having to deal
with girl drama all the time has made me a very open minded and flexible person.
It has made me appreciate people and their feelings more. I now know how to
deal with attitudes better instead of getting an attitude myself and make the
situation worse. I have learned how to express my feelings in a positive that
will make a better team and more importantly a better me.
As an employee of Wendy’s, I have had
many experiences where I have had to use problem solving. At Wendy’s dealing with problems is a big
part of my job. I problem solve by helping my crew members get things done and finding effective ways to keep our drive thru
time down and dining room time down. Also by stocking and taking inventory of
food and products I make sure we get the right shipment out for the next day,
so that we won’t be short of food and supplies.
Wendy’s has also given me great
communication skills and made me an effective communicator. Working in the fast
food industry, you have to know how to communicate with your customers and team
members. Being an effective communicator comes into play mostly with customers
and their complaints. For example, if a customer comes back in the restaurant
with food that is made wrong, you have to know how to communicate with them and
make them feel comfortable. Having good customer service skills makes for good
restaurant which makes the customer want to come back.
Over the years, I have become a
proficient technology user. Gahanna Lincoln high school has made me very comfortable
with using technology by typing papers, making power points and taking an info
tech class to learn how to use computers more efficiently. Over the years I have
found ways to eliminate unreliable websites and find the good ones to use for
information in my papers and essays. My freshman year I attended the Metro High
School and the introduced me to a class called I.E.D (Introduction to
Engineering Design). This class was a technology-based course showing students
how to make sketches, and build models of things. This class also introduced me
to a new tech program on the computer called CAD, where you could build shapes
and bring he sketches you made to life.
Over all having skills in these five
categories has made me a well-rounded person that is prepared for the real
world.
