Literature Review 1

I am an addict.  I am addicted to magazines.  I am addicted to entertainment television shows.  I am addicted to the glamorous life of Hollywood stars.  I have often wondered how and where celebrities or other famous and important people get their one of a kind looks. Two word fashion styling, fashion stylists help their clients create a cutting edge look for appearances, films, and award shows.  My essential question for my project is what does it take to become a fashion stylist? I chose this essential question because I think it would help me understand what it takes to be a stylist and to style a good collection. I believe you need to know all of what it takes or you will never succeed in such a competitive filed like fashion styling. I found a website that is a good basis for information you will need for becoming a fashion stylist.  My source has great reliability because it’s updated often and gives multiple examples of ways to become a stylist such as demanding skills and traits you need.

A Fashion stylist is someone who is paid to style an outfit or a look for someone going to some type party or important event.  Becoming a fashion stylist just doesn’t happen over night; it takes time and patience. He/she needs to build up their clients so that people will want them to style for them. (allaboutstyling.net) There are many different types of styling that relate to fashion styling such as editorial styling, video/commercial styling, wardrobe /personal styling, and runway styling. He/she should have a passion for fashion and a keen eye for detail, as well as be up to date with the latest fashion trends and color schemes. Its also important to be familiar with a huge range of fashion labels. Learn how to conceal the body’s flaws with bodies with strengths by using accessories, colors, and different clothing’s to an advantage. (allaboutstyling.net) A stylist must be highly organized, have the ability to work to a schedule, be self motivated, trustworthy, honest, reliable and have a sense of humor (allaboutstyling.net). A stylist needs to have a great and well-presented portfolio of work to present to prospective clients, and if one is good enough, they can find an Agency to represent you and help find work. A professional looking website will also be an advantage (allaboutstyling.net).

My research answered my essential question by showing me what it truly takes to be a fashion stylist. In my research, I found information that is helpful to me like showing me how to coordinate colors together, and how to size my clients correctly. My research also showed me what characteristics that I need have to maintain my clients and that I need to get things done on time.  What I learned most is as a fashion stylist, you need to be self motivated which I feel I need to work on the most. I also learned that I need to have good time management so that I can get things done and on time for my events. My research contributes to my project development by helping me create a good collection for my client. I know how to style things according to size and height and weight. Things that will also help contribute to my project development would be the characteristics that I learned while researching.
